Getting a swarm from a tall tree 2/23/2008 9:09:53 PM |
Here is a way to remove a swarm from a very tall tree limb. I first tied a ball to the end of a rope, and then threw it over the limb near the swarm. Then, I tied a frame of baby, unhatched bees (called "brood") to the other end, and pulled the frame up so it contacted the swarm. The bees migrated to the frame because they hate to leave their brood unprotected. The queen also moved to the frame, and I lowered the frame+bees down, and put them in a bee box. The rest of the bees followed to be with their queen. |
