HONEY FACTS
"LOCAL".....Many people desire local raw honey and pollen because it can reduce or eliminate pollen-caused allergies, which are caused by the local floral sources. But did you know that very little of the honey advertised as "local" in health food stores is truly produced in this area? Check the label. If it says "produced by", Packed by", "bottled by", or uses other terms that do not actually specify exactly where the beehives are located, it probably isn't local honey!! Why? Because honey is an international commodity, and can be bought in bulk very cheaply. By the barrel, honey costs around a dollar a pound, so people, even small beekeepers, find it very tempting to buy it from distant producers, bottle it, and sell it! Also, Oklahoma produces rather low average yields of honey per hive compared with many states, so commercial beekeepers are not common here. UNLESS HONEY SPECIFICALLY SAYS IT IS PRODUCED LOCALLY, IN THE TULSA AREA, IT PROBABLY IS NOT. None of the bigger health food stores in Tulsa, for example, carried truly local honey when this was written in February, although some of it is claimed to be from "OK". But they do encourage you to buy local!
My Apiaries (beeyards) are located in forested areas near Mannford, Oklahoma, near the Cimarron River, so all the honey and pollen comes from wildflowers and trees. Many people in the Tulsa bioregion like to use Honey and Pollen from the local area, collected from wildflowers similar to where they live. This is because coarse filtered honey and especially pollen can be used to help with allergies. Essentially this means the honey and pollen should be produced in the same "biome". A more detailed description of the honeycomb and wildflower pollen products are given in the "products" link below, but in general I can say that the taste, quality and purity does not get any better. This is honey and pollen at it's best. For ordering, read below: this site features truly risk-free ordering, without putting your sensitive information at risk.
