Innocence Abroad

These were some of the Ugandan children we lived with in the Rwenzori mountains. We were there teaching advanced beekeeping to the Lhukonzo people, as volunteers for LIDEFO. Some really fine folks, and the children have somehow retained a great innocence despite hardship and violence.

Lhukonzo Kids Trying to Be Manly

Within the Lhukonzo culture it is considered unmanly to laugh too much. I told them to be tough and not laugh... What a great bunch of kids. I bet I saw thousands of children, and never once was there an argument or fight. Really well behaved, and really happy. We were there volunteering for LIDEFO

Going to Teach Beekeeping in the Rwenzori Mountains

This was the scary part; getting to work. The villages were about an hour by motorcycle on some of the most gawdawful paths I ever saw. Sorry about the "trying not to laugh" caption, I put it on by mistake and can't get it off. Should read "trying not to s*** my pants". By the way, this was part of LIDEFO, a worthy non-profit which is for real and not some ripoff. I know, I was there a month and was involved in all of it.
